Matthew Edwards and the Unfortunates are based in Birmingham UK and San Francisco CA. Folklore is their second album (their first on Gare Du Nord Records) following on from The Fates which was released on Metal Postcard Records in October 2014.

The album chronicles Matthew Edwards' return to Brimingham after 20 years living in California.

Folklore was recorded in Leamington Spa, England by John A. Rivers (Felt, Dead Can Dance) and in San Francisco by Robert Taylor. The album features guest appearances from Dagmar Krause on vocals (Slapp Happy, Henry Cow), Fred Frith on guitar (Robert Wyatt, Eno) and keyboards from Eric Drew Feldman (PJ Harvey, Captain Beefheart).

BAFTA award winning film-maker Jonathan Hodgson has made series of short films to accompany some of the songs on the album.
